Manuscript material for two titles consisting of corrected typescript, corrected galley proofs, and designer notes, a small amount of correspondence, illustrative material including illustrations done in a variety of media many with separations, studies and sketches, dummies, publisher's dummies, layouts, paste-ups, photographs, proofs for illustrations and texts, shooting copy done in 1990 for reprints of some of the "Anatole" books, production material for bookmarks, and some miscellaneous art work including designs done for a 1962 Christmas card.

Paul Galdone was born circa 1907 in Budapest, Austria- Hungary and immigrated to the United States in 1921. Galdone studied art at the Art Student's League and New York School for Industrial Design . He served in World War II in the U.S. Army, Engineers. The author and illustrator of children's books also was employed as a bus boy, electrician's helper, and fur dryer, in addition to four years in the art department at Doubleday (NY).
